Nick Weir
Nick is a local food community development facilitator with a broad range of community and Social Venture experience. Nick was a founder member of Stroud Community Agriculture which is now held up by the Soil Association as a Beacon Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project. He is also a founder member of Stroudco Food Hub www.stroudco.org.uk which is providing a new economic model for community food distribution.
His work re-connects farmers with the communities which eat their food. He helps make farms more profitable and helps communities to re-connect with the land, understand the issues of food production and rediscover the value of being close to the land.
Nick’s paid work is as a facilitator, working mainly with local food projects. This involves supporting new community food projects from first steps through initial teething problems to self-sufficiency. His main focus is on business planning, feasibility studies, conflict management and community building.
Nick has recently completed the NESTA Community-Led Diffusion programme and has been funded by NESTA to;
- Run a pilot food hub programme in schools and
- Write an Action Pack to be used by any school in the UK interested in developing a local food hub.
- Write the Local United diffusion pack for local food initiatives.
