DECC Annual Energy Statement 2011

In its annual energy statement delivered by Chris Huhne, the Department of Energy and Climate Change predicted a rise in world gas prices that would push bills up. However by 2020 it is expected that household bills will be 7% lower than they would otherwise be without the governments current policies.

Chris Huhne stated that energy saving is now an equal priority with energy production and set out how DECC would secure our energy at the lowest cost in the future. In the short term, by promoting competition. In the medium term, by insulating our homes. And in the long term by steering us away from excessive reliance on fossil fuels and onto clean, green secure energy.

He also discussed energy demand and production, new technologies, implications for business, jobs in the energy sector and the impact this will have on the country.
