Today Climate Change and Energy Minister Greg Barker took part in TwitterUK’s Question & Answer series. He answered question put to him by the general public on rising energy prices and household energy bills. Here are the questions which were put to the Minister -
Q. Can you comment on why when the wholesale price of fuel drops, the consumer prices don't?
GB. Good question. Much more competition is key but govt & OFGEM are pulling down barriers for smaller players to challenge Big6.
Speaking at the Lib Dem conference 2011 the energy secretary, Chris Huhne, made it clear that things need to change in the energy sector. He emphasised that, despite the economic climate “cutting carbon is not a luxury to be ditched when the going gets tough” and he restated the government’s aim to be the greenest ever.
